Ward Moretti | Bastille Day celebrated by the Impressionists

Ward Moretti invites visitors to discover its curated selling exhibition of Impressionism: Painting from Nature, on view at Moretti Gallery, Monaco, until the 21st July. The show captures the essence of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art and celebrates the enchanting beauty of nature, coinciding with the Grimaldi Forum's summer exhibition Monet in Full Light, which pays homage to the 140th anniversary of the artist's first visit to the Riviera and with Bastille Day, the French national holiday commemorating the Storming of the Bastille on 14th July 1789. The exhibition will be open to the public on the 14th July.

Impressionism: Painting from Nature, features works by some of the biggest names from the Impressionist movement. The show is led by Pierre-Auguste Renoir's Jeune Fille lisant (1890), a tender depiction of a young girl absorbed in a book.

Other highlights include two landscapes by Renoir, and further bucolic views of the countryside by Jean-François Millet, and - from the other side of the Atlantic - Childe Hassam. PostImpressionism is represented by Édouard Vuillard's Madame Vuillard cousant (1895) and Pierre Bonnard's glowing still life Fleurs rouges (1892).

This exhibition will run through 21st July. The exhibition will be open to the public during the day of July 14th. Perhaps fitting, then, that two works in the show contain paintings depicting the celebrations of this holiday. Henri Le Sidaner's Le 14 Juillet, 1910, presents a captivating scene of lanterns illuminating a street scene, with an intense focus on light and shadow in the evening.

Meanwhile, Gustave Loiseau's 14 Juillet, Place de la Bastille, c. 1925, transports viewers to the heart of Paris in an energetic and festive scene. Loiseau captures the patriotism of the moment as the canvas bursts with life as flags, beautifully depicted with vibrant colours, gracefully drape the buildings of Place de La Bastille. The artist's skilful brushwork animates the scene, as jubilant figures in the crowd wave flags high above their heads.
