Traditional vs modern slot games: Which were easier to beat?

If you've ever wondered whether it's online slot games UK - the newer kind of slot - or physical, traditional slots that were easier to beat, we may have an answer for you. The truth is, both are very hard to beat these days, and a number of anti-cheating mechanisms are always in place to ensure everyone can play fairly. However, that doesn't mean people haven't tried, and it's an interesting question - let's look more into it.

Traditional Slots

The very first slot machine was invented by Charles Fey. It came into being in 1895 and was called the Liberty Bell. It was very simple (by today's standards, at least) and had just three reels, each with five symbols depicted on it. From them on, certainly for the next 80 years or so, most other slot machines that came about followed Fey's popular formula, and a new hobby was born in many places across the world. So the term ‘traditional slot' really means this kind of machine, with a number of reels and symbols and paylines.

Modern Slots

Modern slots is a term that encompasses a variety of different games including online games (which are virtual slots) and those powered by computers. Although the game itself is generally the same as it is with traditional slots, there are differences - the main one being the themes that you can get with modern slots. There are so many to choose from, and technology means that the graphics and sounds are much better than they have ever been before, and certainly better than any of the traditional slots.

Simplicity

When you think how complicated or simple the slots are, you'll see that traditional slots are much simpler, and modern slots, with their many different options (including their betting stakes and paylines and bonus games) are a lot more complicated. It stands to reason, then, that the traditional slots are going to have been much easier to beat - there wasn't as much technology standing between the cheat and their money, and there weren't as many fail safes put in place to ensure that all remained as it should without being ‘fiddled with'.

RTP

The RTP is a figure, usually expressed as a percentage, that you'll see listed by any slot game - or at least you should see it; if you don't, walk away as by law these figures must be shown. Although you can't use an RTP to cheat, you can sometimes use an RTP to beat a game. This is because, the higher the percentage figure, the more chance there is of getting your initial stake back. The closer to 100 you can find, the more likely it is you will win. So if you want to ‘beat' a slot game, look for the higher RTPs.

When it comes to either the modern or traditional slots, and which is easier to beat through the use of RTPs, it's the modern ones that come out on top. This is because they have higher RTPs that older games, and therefore technically pay out more often.
