The Monte-Carlo Television Festival is celebrating its 65th anniversary in style. On Tuesday, the iconic event in the Principality unveiled its Official Selection for the 2026 Golden Nymphs, featuring a particularly strong lineup of ambitious television productions, hard-hitting documentaries, and innovative digital content from around the world.
The international juries, tasked with selecting the winners, will be presided over by three high-profile figures: British actress Lesley Manville for Fiction, Oscar-nominated director Joshua Seftel for Grand Reportages & News, and media executive Susanne Daniels for the new Digital category. The prestigious Golden Nymphs will be awarded during the Closing Ceremony on Tuesday, June 16, hosted by Louise Ekland and Ricky Whittle.
Fiction: Hollywood Stars and Rising European Voices
The Fiction competition promises an impressive showcase. Leading the charge is the American espionage thriller PONIES, starring Emilia Clarke alongside Haley Lu Richardson.
The United Kingdom stands out strongly with two highly anticipated titles: The Other Bennet Sister, an elegant literary adaptation featuring Ella Bruccoleri and Richard E. Grant, and the tense psychological thriller Gone led by Rosie Day. Italy makes a powerful impression with the long-awaited prequel Gomorrah - The Origins, returning to the cult universe that launched Salvatore Esposito and Marco D'Amore, along with Rosso Volante, a co-production with Rai Fiction.
More intimate and socially engaged stories round out the selection, including the drama Fadia (set between Palestine and Israel), Olivia (Germany), Jones (Portugal), and the powerful Danish military drama The Uniform. These series explore themes of identity, family legacy, power, crime, and social transformation.
Grand Reportages & News: An Unflinching Look at Today's World
The documentary and current affairs category stands out for its global scope and editorial boldness. Productions from Japan, South Africa, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East tackle urgent issues including war, migration, geopolitics, and human resilience.
Notable entries include Under Occupation: The Reality of Russification (NHK, Japan), Our Earth, My Blood (South Africa), the BBC's Into the Void: Putin's Foreign Fighters, as well as Iran, Israel and the Bomb, La Guerre, Donald Trump et nous, and ICE at the Heart of the Anti-Migrant Police. Swedish, Swiss, and Italian investigations - such as Mission Investigate: The Hunt, The Shattered Lives of Crans-Montana, and Dacia Vita Mia - further enrich a selection that combines journalistic rigor with profound humanity.
Digital: A Historic New Competition
For its 65th edition, the Festival takes a major step forward by launching its first official Digital Competition. Following the success of last year's Digital Prize (which notably honored French creator Squeezie), this new category now has its own dedicated jury and celebrates the most creative and daring web formats.
France shines brightly with original content such as 8h of Makeup to Become a Lizard!, The Hidden Side of CDG Airport at Night, and Morbid Curiosity (Webedia & Elephant Adventures). The international selection also includes Controlled: Can I Trust My Partner? (United Kingdom), How Indian Students End Up Exploited in Germany (Deutsche Welle), and Next-Door Families - What Makes a Family? (South Korea), highlighting the global vitality of digital storytelling.
