The lavander, to finally get into the summer

Let's look closely at this flower for which a museum is dedicated...

The word "lavender " (Lavandula) would have been created in the Middle Ages according to the Latin verb " Lavare " which means to "wash ", but the usage of this plant dates from very previous epoch. The first mention that we have it shows that the Romans have already used it to perfume their baths and to maintain the linen. Dioscoride lines up lavenders to the number of "precious plants".

In the course of the next centuries, lavender continues to be named discreetly but regularly, mainly in texts relate to medicine, to hygiene and to beauty.

From the Middle Ages, the presence in Marseilles and in Montpellier of important faculties of medicine and faculties of chemist's shop played an important role in the knowledge of the local plants.

Lavender (who was naturally in a good standing among these plants) gave advantage to be easy to find since she grew to the wild state.

As for the perfume of lavender, centuries of usage didn't corrupt charm, and there remains one of the basic components of the modern perfumery.
