Combining art and science is the whole project of "We are Mediterranean" which aims to explore, document and enhance the biodiversity of "Mare Nostrum".
Photographer from Nice specializing in the underwater environment, Greg Lecoeur organizes naturalist expeditions to the heart of the Pelagos Sanctuary. Accompanied by several scientists, they pool their resources and carry out missions that enrich knowledge of these unique ecosystems.This Thursday, June 15 at 9:30 a.m., Greg Lecoeur will leave the port of Nice aboard a catamaran, for a new Pelagos expedition in the presence of Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d'Azur Metropolis, Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
This approach is perfectly in line with the development of the future United Nations Ocean Summit which will take place in Nice in June 2025.
A maritime reserve of 87,500 km² of unique wealth in the world, the Pelagos Sanctuary is the subject of an agreement between France, Italy and the Principality of Monaco for the protection of the marine mammals that frequent it.
Exceptional natural heritage, it is within the Pelagos Sanctuary that the future Marine Protected Area (MPA) should be created, so the consultation was launched on June 9th.
