The Art of Offering a Gift, an art to measure yourself

We all made or received a gift in our lives. Is that little moment when you don't put yourself into the center and you think of the other first: to make him /her smile, to make him/ her happy, to offer something that will never be forgotten and will tickle the time into a memorable moment.

Making a gift is offering a part of your budget, your time or your thoughts to somebody else. Whether the person is a close friend or not, making a gift is not about that. Is not a scale to measure friendship, is an art to measure yourself.

The art of giving is the art of being capable of losing selfishness and think about the other with affection, joy and love. Is a moment that is not focused around you but that will reveal a lot about you. The way you are dedicating yourself to making a gift shows the importance you give to the others (not only to the person to receive the gift), the level of selfishness, the "'I don't give a sh.t!" factor . Making a gift is all about you, not about the other person. Is the attention to detail, the close human touch, the will of making somebody else happy and offering something that comes from you, your true you. It is about taking the time to get to know what the other person needs, wants or makes him / her happy. Is about an old forgotten art: altruism!

What does it matter most when offering a gift rather than being a presence if not offering a present? Why do we often call a gift a present? Because it maximizes the value of time, in time. It is not about you being there with some sort of unpractical unuseful present to give that will put the other person to a squared smile; it's about you being there for the other. There are truly amazing people that find happiness in giving, in seeing the other vibrate at the same level of joy. And this one reveals the character of the giver.

So, this is why I consider making a gift as an art that not many know how to deal with. Some because of the selfishness, others because of the ignorance, the reasons can be so many. One thing is important, though, to be remembered: making a gift is an art and, like many other arts, is not accessible to all. It needs certain qualities and human touch, it needs stepping outside of the ego zone and seeing the other, is pure connection and human link. Opened enough for it?
