Sci-Fi footage at Cannes Film Festival

Festival de Cannes should always be about movies and cinematic art. Not about Kardashians, anyway ! So, we should think a bit about this amazing art we call filming and directing.

We had the pleasure of meeting the cast and director from the movie The Kaos Brief, see the movie and talk about it afterwards with director JP Mandarino and the main character , the actor Drew Lipson.

The 70 minutes movie was a winner at Boston Sci-Film Festival and at Sci-Fi London. It is a light horror sci-fi film that targets mostly teenagers as it has al the necessary elements : teenage life, gadgets, drones, blogging and v blogging, camping, relationships and gathering together.

A secretive hackers group named KAOS seemingly hacks applications and viewers choices on internet. The KAOS representative is dressed in a hip suit and is wearing a skull mask which reminds us of Anonymous group. As the footage begins, four high school seniors, twin brother and sister, Skylar and Dakota, and Skylar's boyfriend Corey and Dakota's boyfriend Tren go on a camping. Skylar is a vlogger and he is filming their entire trip and lives. On their camping they see strange lights in the sky and from this on, the strange things chain themselves turning the film into a suspence one.

How was your real experience with the movie ?

DL : It was my first feature film I ever did, so it was very exciting to be part of that. It was fun. I did a lot of the filming, I pretty much filmed the movie.

Are you a vlogger ?

DL : I'm n ot a vlogger, no...I had fun. The other cast, it was great. We weren't friends before but we had a nice energy together and I think I translated it on the screen. So, yeas, it was a great experience ! And JP was a lot of fun to work with.

How long did it take to make the movie ?

JP : Two weeks ! My approach was from Iphone, from the drones ...everything has a camera.

We are spied by different forces ?

JP : I just want to bring a little bit of awareness to the fact that there's no privacy... You post something that may seem completely innocuous and sometimes, there are repercutions ... in most times and in our modern times when things are posted ...

There is a message behind the film and I believe is a very actual one : besides the fact that we are not alone in the Universe, everything else is connected and we are always on surveillance. Our minds are blurred, our eyes are covered and everything we do doesn't get unnoticed. The idea of the film is to keep the suspense in that unknown mystery that, in the end, remains in the same mystery line. And, as the Director says, lets us wait for the sequel. (there will be two more parts). And we are looking forward to discovering what the Director of the movie prepared us.
