Rotterdam will be this spring under the sign of design and of know-how. The art collectors and amateurs of design will find their happiness in exhibitions Hand Made: Lang Leve het Ambacht in the museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and Like Pastoe in Kunsthal. But in the rest of the city also, the amateurs of design will have of what to be satisfied of.

‘Hand Made: Lang Leve het Ambacht' in the museum Boijmans Van Beuningen shows the most notable examples of the yesterday and today's arts and crafts. From March 9th till May 20th, the museum will display more than five hundred objects: of a bench - medieval chest, a refined Venetian glassware of the 17th century and a bright work by hand, coming from the museum Victoria and Albert in London, in a screen inlaid with studio Job, a pullover knit with the wool of the single sheep of Christien Meindertsma and a metallic lacy fence of Demakersvan.

Next to exhibition, museum Boijmans Van Beuningen organises many activities among which a detailed and various programme of films and of documentaries on the jobs of the arts and crafts, as well as a series of workshops such as tricot, impression 3D and job of the wood.

For the same period, Kunsthal Rotterdam organises a large exhibition around the centenary of the brand, a piece of furniture Dutch Pastoe. Since its foundation in 1913, Pastoe developed to become a world-famous design brand. This mark is synonymous with simplicity, with permanence, with quality and with trade. Over the years, Pastoe became attached the services of a very good team of designers such as Maarten Van Severen, Shigeru Uchida and Scholten and Baijings.

Exhibition Like Pastoe (23 fevrier - June 2nd) redraw the history of the brand by the the pieces of furniture and give an overview of exceptional cooperation between Pastoe and various architects, artists and creators.

At night of the museums of Rotterdam

The Night of the museums of Rotterdam is an exciting night with an unique and incredible programme, going beyond art and culture, in surprising and known places. On March 9th, many museums and galleries will open their doors all night. Besides the permanent collections and exhibitions, there will be, in the course of the night, many special guided tours, workshops, representations, small events and other exciting activities. The Night of the museums of Rotterdam is organised since 2002 and attracts about 12 000 visitors today.

Swan Market - Edition Handmade

In the course of the Night of the museums, museum Boijmans Van Beuningen organises a special edition Handmade at Swan Market. Swan Market is a lifestyle market in Rotterdam, where a very manifold offer of creative objects is found. Fashion, jewellery, vintage objects, accessories, accessible art, etc. are widely represented in Swan Market. Edition Handmade takes place in and around the museum Boijmans Van Beuningen. The only ones of the handmade products will be sold on the market.

Groos

GROOS is a new concept blind for fashion, art, music, fine products and lifestyle, which will open its doors in February. The shop will sell only quality products of Rotterdam. Groos is an ancient Dutch word which means to trust. As a result, the shop will unite, under the single roof, all products of Rotterdam of which we are "Groos" to introduce them to a general public.

 HotTug

HotTug is a hot bathtub heated to the wood with which you can sail and a tug (tug) in whom you can have a very hot bath. It was conceived to relax on the water by sailing in the steam or not, while searching pretty banks to moor or to swim. HotTug is a creation of Supergoed, the firm of Frank de Bruijn, whose workshop is in a barge moored in the harbour of Rotterdam. From Bruijn carry out so many years jobs of internal development, often for exhibitions, as for example for the museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and NAI.

Gallery Vivid

VIVID is a real and virtual center of design. VIVID shows why Dutch Design is so renowned worldwide. VIVID also introduces creations of Gerrit Th. Rietveld, Joep van Lieshout, Studio Job, Hella Jongerius and Bertjan Pot. You can also buy of Dutch Design to Vivid.

Gallery Christian Ouwens

The Gallery Christian Ouwens, in the city centre, introduces a fabulous collection of design, of pictures and of photos of famous designers such as Piet Hein Eek, Maarten Baas, Hella Jongerius, Christien Meindertsma and Marcel Wanders.

Mainport

Mainport, new addition in the wallet of Inntel Hotels of Rotterdam, joined the exclusive group of Design HotelsTM. The hotel 5 stars, of 215 rooms, is ideally located in the centre of Rotterdam, with view on the oldest internal harbour and the famous bridge Érasme. Mainport includes influence of all continents into a decor design, with Rotterdam as «harbour of tie».

Student Hotel 

Student Hotel in Rotterdam is the first hotel design for foreign students in Europe. The hotel has more than 250 rooms and annexes. Besides students' rooms, the hotel also has 22 new rooms for not students. Student Hotel gives all opportunities for a short or long stay: a centre of fitness, a reading room, areas of study and of job, a bike for each and the restaurant The Kitchen.
