It's a challenge nowadays to think of Cinderella. The time of stories seems so far away. Still, the director Kenneth Branagh thought of an artistic reinterpretation of the story into a movie having the same name and due to be launched in March.
As from what we have seen till now, it is somptuous and the characters full of charm, the 50s charm as the costume designer Sandy Powell puts it.
So, what Sandy Powell proposes us as the costumes of the characters? What Cinderella wears in the movie?
"I didn't want her in rags, as she is often portrayed in the storybooks," Sandy Powell said. "What I gave her instead is a dress that starts out pretty and ends up looking faded, tired, and worn out."
The entire inspiration was drawn from the 50s. We can see the sisters in yellow and pink sorority sisters dresses that step out as ridiculous. Cate Blanchett is playing the role of the step mother wearing ultra elaborate skirts, hats and dresses.
But, the attention is, of course, on Cinderella, the character that makes every girl dream. And, besides the nice dress and the princess gown, the signature stays in the glass slippers.
They are based upon a shoe existed in a museum in Northamton. It is made of crystal in tight collaboration with Swarovski.
I guess it lets us the imagination to walk in them and see how it feels. And in March to wait for the magic to happen in an artistic movie to make us rediscover love!
