In September 2016, the Kunsthal Rotterdam Museum is presenting A Different History of Fashion, the first major retrospective dedicated to the German legendary photographer Peter Lindbergh. After World premiere in Rotterdam, the exhibition will tour around the world from 2017. The exhibition and the book, dedicated to over 30 years of fashion photographs by Peter Lindbergh, were possible thanks to the Conservative exclusive Thierry-Maxime Loriot access to the personal archives of photographer.
Fashion
A Different History of Fashion brings together 250 of the most iconic photographs of Lindbergh featuring the creations of 25 designers from various periods considered. Lindbergh's photographs are accompanied by designer's comments, original creations of their haute couture collections and some new images. Designers like Azzedine Alaia, Jean Paul Gaultier and Giorgio Armani have collaborated with the photographer for years. The exhibition tells the story of contemporary fashion, gathering hinges photographs that have influenced generations of designers, photographers and artists.

Since the late 1970s, Lindbergh has worked with the most famous fashion magazines, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and The Face. His approach to fashion story brought a new vision of photography. Over the years, he has created images with minimal artifice that have marked the history of photography. With a romantic vision of his subjects, Lindbergh offers a new interpretation of women beyond 1980 marking the beginning of the era of supermodels, his famous photo "Wild at Heart" brings together for the first time the new generation including Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell and Cindy Crawford. This exhibition includes unpublished photographs such as polaroids, images scenarios, sets, films made behind the scenes with the muses Kate Moss and Mariacarla Boscono, as well as video interviews with renowned models.
Peter Lindbergh
Peter Lindbergh was born in Lissa (Germany) in 1944. He currently lives and works between Paris, Arles and New York. He spent his childhood in Duisburg (North-Rhine - Westphalia) and studied painting at the College of Arts in Krefeld. In 1971 he became interested in photography. Typically, photographs in black and white Lindbergh inspired the beginnings of German cinema, modern dance in the 1920s and industrial environments.
