The 21st edition of the Monte-Carlo Film Festival de la Comédie opened on Wednesday, November 27, chaired by Ezio Greggio, creator and President of the festival, "I am delighted to have brought together this Jury, of which I am very proud, composed of two international actresses such as Anne Brochet and Andréa Ferréol and a talented actress of the new generation, Federica Sabatini, and an Italian actor of the caliber of Ricky Memphis, a leading actor in comedies and productions on the small and big screen for many years." And he added: "This year again, we are very satisfied with the level of the selected films in competition, as is the tradition of our Festival, and this year again will be a great edition. I would like to thank His Serene Highness Prince Albert II and the Italian Embassy in the Principality of Monaco with its new ambassador H.E. Manuela Ruosi for their support."
During the press conference, hosted by Ezio Greggio, Anne Brochet, President of the Jury, answered the master of the place's questions about her career: "I have always loved working with meticulous but pleasant directors."
Andréa Ferréol has repeatedly stressed her great love for Italy and for "the food, the people, the cities that are open-air museums and of course the great cinema." And once again, she does not forget her esteem and gratitude for Maestro Marco Ferreri who opened the doors of fame and success to her.
The young actress Federica Sabatini, in her first experience as a juror of a Film Festival, enthusiastic about the idea of participating in the Kermesse, underlines her great love for Quentin Tarantino's cinema and adds: "I would love to work with Paolo Virzì".
Finally, the only male presence in the Jury, Ricky Memphis, who explained, on the subject of Comedy, how important and fundamental it is to have the right timing to make people laugh. Among his most important memories linked to his experience, there is the series "Distretto di Polizia", which marked important moments in his life.
GUESTS, GALA EVENING AND WINNERS
The Festival will end with the gala evening on Saturday 30 November, hosted by the President and creator of the event, Ezio Greggio, who, together with friends and colleagues from the world of television and cinema, will reward the films in competition, the Italian and international stars who have come to the Principality of Monaco to celebrate the 21st edition of the festival. The special guest of the Monte Carlo Film Festival will be the director, writer and screenwriter Giuseppe Tornatore ("The Legend of the Pianist on the Ocean", "Malena", "Stanno tutti bene", "Baaria"), Oscar winner for the direction of "Nuovo cinema Paradiso", with which he also won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, who will be presented with the MCFF Award of Excellence.
Great anticipation also for the eclectic Paola Minaccioni ("Magnifica presenza", "Ma cosa ci dice il cervello", "Lockdown all'Italiana" and the highly anticipated "Diamanti" by Ferzan Ozpetek), best leading actress at the Nastri D'Argento for "Allacciate le cinture", who will receive the MCFF Award for her career characterized by brilliant comedies and committed films.
The singer Lusaint (Lucy Hopkins), originally from Manchester, one of the most interesting voices of the moment, will participate in the evening and accompany the guests of the Grimaldi Forum with her most popular songs, "Fool for you" and "Sober".
For the second time, the international star Salvatore Esposito ("Gomorrah - The Series", "Fargo", "Spaccapietre"), who will star in the new Sky Original TV series, "Piedone - Uno Sbirro a Napoli", starting December 2 exclusively on Sky, in the role of Vincenzo Palmieri, a police inspector, spiritual heir to Inspector Rizzo made immortal by the unforgettable Bud Spencer in the legendary "Piedone Lo Sbirro" (1973). Esposito will also present at the Festival his latest literary work, the detective novel "Le Streghe di Lourdes", published by Sperling & Kupfer.
The 21st edition of the Monte-Carlo Film Festival de la Comédie, in collaboration has always been placed under the High Patronage of HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco and the Italian Embassy. Since the first edition, Radio Monte Carlo has been the official radio station of the Festival.
As every year, the Marlù jewellers participate in the festival, and this year with a Marlù award for social issues "Your words can make a difference". With this award, Marlù wishes to recognise the role of words as a means of amplifying social issues and messages dear to the community and to strengthen the voice of those who help young people to grow and dream.
