Panama

  • S.E. Issamary Sanchez Ortega (Ambassador of Panama)conference on Panama's unique ecosystem and impact connecting the worlds and drivingpositive change as an example in sustainable and innovative practices.AMLA is honored and proud to dedicate this year's AMLA Gala (December 8th 2023)and first participation at the Art Montecarlo Salon (July 8th 2023) to this country in thepresence of two of its most iconic personalities and representatives of peace and culture,Jazz legend, Danilo Pérez, designated UNESCO Artist for Peace in November 2012 andartist Olga Sinclair, Panama's Cultural Ambassador. Both have been invited to receivethe AMLA Latin American Impact Award (granted as integral part of our annual gala),patronaged by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, to celebrate and award the importantsocial work by both of their foundations.
  • Edilberto Gonzales Trejos (Editor, critic and co-author of "Cuentos dePanama") and Monica Miguel Franco (Author of "Ferox Lux Luz Feroz")will travel, invited by AMLA in partnership with the International Book Fair of Monaco,representing Fiat Lux Ediciones and NONIA Editores, bringing a sample of the bookspublished by them, including their most recent poetry collections, "Aprendiz de Saturno"and "FEROX LUX LUZ FEROZ".While González Trejos will recount Panamanian literature, emphasizing narrative in thelast century and a half, Miguel Franco will point out the history of the noir genre both inprose and poetry in the Republican period of Panama.

As a sample of the contemporary Panamanian narrative, the anthology curated and editedby both authors, "Cuentos de Panamá", published by the University Presses of Zaragoza,will be presented, which includes more than 30 Panamanian writers born between 1932and 1993. It will also be discussed the most recent novel by Osvaldo Reyes, Elexperimento Maquiavelo, published by NONIA Editores.
Uruguay

  • S.E. Jorge Luis Jure (Ambassador of Uruguay)conference on Uruguayan Authors and the sea. Uruguay is a very stable and dynamic countryactive and committed to sustainable social and environmental action and leadership. After theenriching participation of Uruguay, with the head of the legal department at the ministry offoreign affairs, at this year's ocean week, hosted and coordinated by AMLA; we hope tocontinue exploring future synergies and coordinated action between Uruguay and theprincipality of Monaco. Mercedes Rosende (Uruguayan Author of L'Autre Femme)born in Montevideo, Uruguay. She is a lawyer and a journalist when not writing fiction. Shehas won many prizes for her novels and short stories. In 2005 she won the Premio Municipalde Narrativa für ‘Demasiados Blues', in 2008 the National Literature Prize for « La MuerteTendrá tus Ojos" and in 2019 the LiBeraturpreis in Germany for « Crocodile Tears ».

Now she is back with her latest novel « L'Autre Femme, 2022 » Solitary and obese forty-something Úrsula López lives in the old center of Montevideo. One evening, a phone call
from a certain Germán asks her for a ransom to free... her husband. Discovering hernamesake with the wife of a kidnapped wealthy businessman, Úrsula then demands a largerransom from her, who in turn outbids her and offers to get rid of her husband permanently.From then on, this single woman dissatisfied with her life, starved since childhood byineffective diets, begins to pull the strings and manipulate everyone with Machiavellianpleasure.

  • Antoine Barrale (writer, editor, and critic)will introduce us to the essence and evolution of Uruguayan literature, with a focus on Franceshowcasing five selective contemporary authors and books, (1) Le livre de la desobeissance,par Rafael Courtoisie; (2) Todo el bien y todo el mal, par Antonio Barrale; (3) Autreshistoires d'Uruguay par 10 auteurs; (4) Pourquoi J'ai enleve Charlotte Rampling par GustavoEspinosa et (5) L'Auto par Carlos Rehermann. Barrale, will start with the strong cultural andliterure bond between France and Uruguay, dating back to the 19th and 20th century, thegolden age for Latin American Literature during the 1960s to 1980s and finish with anexisting view on literature today and tomorrow.Argentina Eduardo Fernando Varela (Author of "Roca Pelada" & "Patagonia route 203")Eduardo lives between Buenos Aires, where he writes scripts for cinema and television, andVenice. He studied journalism, photography, and audiovisual writing. He has two books,

which have won several prizes and worldwide recognition. His first book "Patagonia route203", 2020, tells the story of an enigmatic saxophonist, who encounters the most fascinatingcharacters and surprising and hostile situations, as he drives through Patagonia's secondaryroads. A journalist, who drives a car without brakes and searches for Nazi submarines,cannibalistic Trinitarians who renounce meat, Bolivian evangelical twins' guardians of aghost train, an irascible mechanic, and a jealous husband. In the middle of these roads whereeveryone seems to act with logic worthy of Alice in Wonderland, Parker falls in love with thecashier of a fairground. But how can you track someone in a world where when you ask fordirections you are told: "You go straight, on Thursday you turn left and at nightfall turn leftagain, early or later will you get to the sea"? Eduardo's second book, "Roca Pelada, 2023 "takes us this time to discover life at the top of the highest mountains in the world. A hypnoticrhythm, wild and limitless landscapes, dialogues, and situations as surreal as they are hilarious and a powerful reflection on the great detours of existence alongside a solitary. Thecharacters, a lieutenant, an impertinent sergeant, a squad of corporals come tropics, sick butvery polite, miners made of stone and bone, and even an old wizard! A unique and timeless novel.

The Monaco International Book Fair, created in 2012 by the association "Les RencontresLittéraires Fabian Boisson", is a unique opportunity to discover the world, trough literature inan intimate and creative setting combining the artistic and human nature of expression andstorytelling. Held every year in April, it brings together authors, with their latest novels, tointeract with visitors in a unique setting, combining an art exposition, reading and socialspaces and dedicated conferences and signing sessions.Since its creation, the Salon has seen the participation of renown local and internationalauthors, such as Professor Henry Joyeux, the psychiatrist-psychoanalyst Boris Cyrulnik, the writer and art critic Raphaël Monticelli, Jean -Marie Rouart, Franz-Olivier Giesbert, IrèneFrain, Anne Roumanoff, Clélie AVIT, Jean-Pierre Dirick, Christophe Girard and many otherbig names.
