Michael Douglas, the legendary actor and producer, will be honored to receive the prestigious Crystal Nymph on the occasion of the 59th edition of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. This is what Laurent Puons, Vice President Delegate of the Monte-Carlo Television Festival has just announced.
This award, which recognizes the outstanding television career of a world-renowned actor, will be awarded by S.A.S. Prince Albert II of Monaco, as part of the Festival's Côture Ceremony, on Tuesday, June 18, 2019
The Hollywood monster launched its career on the small screen in 1969, making a name for himself in the special episode "The Experiment" of the "Playhouse" series, on CBS. But it was the award-winning series The Streets of San Francisco (1972-1976) that really propelled him to the front of the stage, with a leading role alongside Karl Malden.
The comedian and producer, who collects awards and honors, won two Oscars for Flight over a Cuckoo's Nest in 1976 and Wall Street in 1988. For the HBO film My Life with Liberace, Michael received an Emmy , a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Liberace.
Michael recently made his return to television, giving Alan Arkin (Catch 22) the Golden Globes award in The Kominsky Method. Michael Douglas' performance in this hugely successful series earned him the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy Series. The series, written by Chuck Lorre (to whom we owe The Big Bang Theory), is currently being filmed for a second season.
For Laurent Puons, "In his long career, Michael Douglas has shone on television, cinema and theater. He remains today one of the most emblematic actors. It is a great pleasure to welcome to our Festival an actor of this caliber and to reward his talent and his work that have marked the world of television. "
Past recipients of the Crystal Nymph: Helen Mirren, Mariska Hargitay, Marg Helgenberger, Patricia Arquette and Donald Sutherland.
