Matteo Gennari: An Architect in Full Motion

Matteo Gennari embodies the idea of a man who is constantly on the move-in his gestures, his ideas, his creations. From the very first moments in his company, his Italianness is immediately apparent: a hearty laugh, expansive movements, an overflowing conviviality that instantly invites confidences. What might be mistaken for benevolent naiveté is in reality genuine affability, a sincere interest in others.

His passion for architecture emerged very early. For him, it is not merely a profession: it is the "genius loci," the art of shaping the space where we live, where we breathe. A graduate of the prestigious Polytechnic University of Milan, he honed his appreciation of the arts and perfected an already keen aesthetic sensibility. In the 1990s, at the heart of Milan's vibrant scene, he frequented the worlds of fashion, photography, and design. Born into a family where culture held a central place, he explored many forms of expression - from drawing to film, including graffiti - before establishing himself as an architect in the noblest and broadest sense of the term.

This eclectic background provides him with a unique perspective: he approaches each project from multiple angles, always seeking novelty and knowledge. A Milanese at heart, he has nonetheless never stopped traveling. Upon graduating from high school ("maturità"), he left for London to experience a bohemian lifestyle far removed from family traditions. Then came Bordeaux (where an Erasmus program allowed him, at a restaurant table, to sketch his first facade for a passerby who became his first client), Turkey, Spain, Mexico, Portugal, Belgium, the United States, Indonesia... A polyglot, he absorbs cultures with an insatiable curiosity, capturing their nuances and richness to create a dialogue between them in his work.

It was ultimately in Nice, where his parents took him on holiday to the family apartment, that he chose to settle down. Eager to immerse himself in local life, he became passionate about skateboarding for several years. A far from trivial discipline: gliding on the board offers a fluid and continuous view of the city - less fast than cycling, never static like walking. The body becomes a camera, capturing every detail of the spaces traversed. A demanding activity, requiring effort and perseverance, but with an immense reward.
He rediscovered this same pleasure of movement in surfing during his student years in the southwest, in Lacanau and Biarritz, where he learned to ride the waves. Patience, endurance, accepting the occasional setback... these are all qualities he later found in golf, a sport of precision and restraint where every stroke traces a trajectory in space. There are obvious parallels with the architect's profession: drawing a line, creating a path, giving meaning to movement.

In his work, this intimate relationship between body and space is clearly evident. As an architect, Matteo Gennari organizes rooms around flows: the circulation of people, but also the path of light. He plays with contrasts of shadow and light, almost invoking Caravaggio's chiaroscuro to breathe life and depth into the volumes. Everything is in motion, because everything is alive.

But he goes further: as an interior designer, he studies his clients' habits, adapting to their privacy. His obsession? To make each space both beautiful and comfortable, elegant and functional, aesthetic and deeply personal. A bedroom conceals a discreet safe; a small cabinet awaits the first coffee of the morning; a dedicated space elegantly displays scarves and ties. From the office to the kitchen, via the living room and bathroom, every detail is designed to allow for full, natural, and joyful living.
Matteo Gennari doesn't just build walls; he sculpts experiences. Spaces where movement-of the body, of light, of emotions-becomes the guiding thread of everyday harmony. An architect who, true to himself, remains in perpetual motion.
