It was during the "An Evening Honoring Karl Lagerfeld" gala that a great interview took place between two celebrities. Jessica Chastain put the words under interrogations with the witty icon Karl Lagerfeld.
It was time for a great exchange of ideas where Karl talked about his childhood, his cat Choupette, his vision about his work and fashion. With an audience that included Ralph Lauren and his wife, Carolina Herrera, Carine Roitfeld, Karl Lagerfeld wanted to improvise. He said to Jessica Chastain that he does not want any prepared list of questions but an open conversation.
When talking about his life, Karl says he is a very boring person:"I'm the most boring person in the world. That allowed me to survive better than a lot of other people. Because if you don't drink, if you don't smoke and you don't take drugs - and I'm not missing it; I never wanted it - and you sleep for seven hours, I can tell you, life is quite pleasant. You don't feel tired or exhausted and things like that. You get up again and have the next day. I know that's very boring, but, you know, I admire people who destroy themselves." This did not stopped him from working hard and having in his portofolio brands like Chanel, Fendi and Karl Lagerfeld. Apart from the luxury brand, his own brand that wears his name wanted to be more accessible.
The fashion designer is very proud for working for Chanel and spoke about how America relaunched the luxury brand in the fifties: "One should not forget that America relaunched Chanel. When Chanel reopened - because of her past, I don't know - the French hated. Beyond nasty. Only America and especially Neiman Marcus were great about her. This is nearly 60 years ago that she reopened, and 55 years ago she went to Dallas to get the award from Neiman Marcus. I think it's a good thing to pay homage to America, which could relaunch Chanel in the Fifties. It's thanks to America, not thanks to China or Japan."
This gala is meant to be an annual event to benefit the Lincoln Center Corporate Fund, which supports 10 organizations resident at Lincoln Center, including the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet and the Juilliard School. Next year, Stella McCartney is on the list.
