It's been a year since Jean Paul Gaultier, l'enfant terrible" of the French fashion has retired. At 69 years old, the fashion designer still wants action. Now, he turned to a different perspective acting as a curator for an exhibition in Paris.
Jean Paul Gaultier, movie costume designer
The exhibition in Paris is called Cinemode and opens the Cinemateque Francaise this Wednesday. The event brings together the world of cinema, photography and costumes. Jean Paul Gaultier is a well-known fan of costumes. He, also, designed costumes for the movie director, Pedro Almodovar and for the movie "The Fifthe Element". He was, also, very fond of cinema icons like Brigitte Bardot or Marylin Monroe.
The fashion era of Brigitte Bardot and Marylin Monroe
"In the same era, Brigitte Bardot was extremely modern and free, while Marilyn was the female-object par excellence," he said.
For this exhibition, the fashion designer will showcase the power of women through this cinematic world starting from Marylin Monroe.
"I wanted to show the evolution of women and men in cinema and fashion. Men becoming more feminine and women taking on more and more power and freedom."
The declaration states pretty well the wanted direction.
