Cathleen Naundorf is a photographer known best for true unretouched images, created in an artistic style. "Fashion has become very brutal," said the photographer. "And very commercial. It's all sell, sell, sell. But haute couture, that's art."
Cathleen Naundorf took glamorous photos at Valentino Garavani's 17th-century castle in Wideville near Paris. The designer granted access to the photographer to his castle, garden and archives from which she took her inspiration. This also included the first dress created by Valentino in 1959, a red cocktail dress. Cathleen Naundorf had the right landscape to shoot and the right technique she loved: large Polaroid formats. "They are so painterly.", she said.
Her love for this photographic technique was also described in her book, "Haute Couture - The Polaroids of Cathleen Naundorf," a mix of art, fashion and photography.
`We don't change the color or make an arm longer. It is what it is. We live in this perfect digital world, but I want my work to look human and have a soul," Cathleen Naundorf declared.
She prepares a new book at the moment which is due to the public from 2015.
