Couleurs!" at Grimaldi Forum Monaco: A Multisensory Celebration of Art and Color
This summer, the Grimaldi Forum Monaco transforms into a living spectrum of art, light, scent, and sound with its landmark exhibition, "Couleurs! Chefs-d'œuvre du Centre Pompidou", running from July 8 to August 31, 2025. Presented in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou Paris, the show marks a rare moment: over 100 masterworks from the museum's modern and contemporary art collection are on loan while the Paris institution undergoes renovations through 2030.
Curated by Didier Ottinger, the exhibition takes a bold, thematic approach-organizing works by color instead of chronology. Visitors journey through seven immersive, monochrome galleries, each dedicated to a specific hue and infused with unique soundscapes by composer Roque Rivas and corresponding fragrances created by perfumer Alexis Dadier for Fragonard. The result is a full sensory immersion, blending sight, smell, and sound into a poetic exploration of chromatic emotion.
The exhibition features an impressive lineup of iconic artists, including Kandinsky, Matisse, Picasso, Sonia Delaunay, Modigliani, Basquiat, Yves Klein, and Warhol. Highlights include Klein's International Klein Blue (IKB 3), Kandinsky's "Bleu de ciel", and Robert Delaunay's Formes circulaires-each offering a profound meditation on the power of pigment and perception.
Beyond fine art, "Couleurs!" includes signature pieces from 20th-century design icons like Jean Prouvé, Ettore Sottsass, Philippe Starck, and Ron Arad, integrated into interiors conceived by designer Marion Mailaender. Scenography by William Chatelain reinforces the bold spatial and emotional ambitions of the show.
The Grimaldi Forum-celebrating its 25th anniversary this year-is hosting this major exhibition in its newly expanded space. With its 41,000 m² surface and 300,000 annual visitors, the venue cements its position as a cultural heavyweight on the Riviera.
