Afghanistan is known now mostly from the war TV news. But, besides this, there is a great story behind it. Ancient Afghanistan was at the crossroads of the civilizations in central Asia, strategically located between east and west. And, this stand for the great exhibitions that reveals great archaeological objects.
250 objects that reveal ancient Afghanistan:
The exhibition Hidden Afghanistan presents 250 archaeological objects, mostly rediscovered in 2004 in the vaults of Central Park in Kabul and brought to Europe in 2006 for the purpose of restoration and exhibitions. The objects are dated from the 2nd millennium BC to the Buddhist dynasty of the Kushana in the first century AD.
Great treasures with graeco-roman, Indian and Chinese symbolism:
There are four major archaeological sites: the oldest is called Tepe Fullol and dates from the Bactrian Bronze Age around 2000 BC. Another site is around Ai Khanum, a city that was founded by the Greeks in the wake of Alexander the Great campaign of conquest. The famous gold treasure of Tilya-tepe is renowned. It is composed of jewellery and art objects from six graves from 1st century AD. The objects are a great combination of Graeco-Roman symbolism, Indian objects and Chinese mirrors.
Another site is around the city of Begram where two sealed chambers were discovered containing Indian furniture in ivory , glass, vases and plaster emblemata of Hellenist origin.
Nomadic Crown:
The Nomadic Crown shows the trees of Life was exhibited at the Kerk Museum on December 18, 2007 in Amsterdam. It is made from gold, imitation turquoise. It is dated from 2nd quarter of 1st century AD.
USA will host also the Hidden Afghanistan exhibition:
The exhibition will be held also in USA.
