Fremantle Launches Premium Line-Up For MIPTV 2019

Fremantle heads to MIPTV with a selection of irresistible must-see programming from some of the best creative minds and producers in the business. Featuring inspiring stories, an exploration of timely issues, show-stopping entertainment and huge stars across all genres.

From Baghdad Central, the gritty new crime thriller created by BAFTA-winning writer Stephen Butchard and La Jauría, a psychological Spanish-language thriller from Oscar-winning filmmakers Pablo and Juan de Dios Larrain, to the Samuel L. Jackson fronted slavery documentary Enslaved, which retraces the harrowing sea voyage that brought millions of Africans to a life of slavery in the New World, and Punk, the music series executive produced by Jon Varvatos and Iggy Pop, featuring interviews with punk legends alongside rare unseen photos and footage.

BEECHAM HOUSE

A 6 x 60' Bend It TV production for ITV (UK)

Created by Gurinder Chadha (Bend it Like Beckham, Viceroy's House), Beecham House is set in Delhi in 1795 before the British ruled India in that region. Tom Bateman (Vanity Fair, Jekyll and Hyde, Murder on the Orient Express) plays John Beecham, a former soldier in the East India Company, who is determined to leave the past behind him and start a new life.



BAGHDAD CENTRAL

A 6 x 60' Euston Films production for Channel 4 (UK)

Waleed Zuaiter, Corey Stoll, Bertie Carvel, Leem Lubany and July Namir join an international cast for the crime thriller Baghdad Central, written and created by BAFTA-nominated writer Stephen Butchard (The Last Kingdom) and based on the novel by Elliott Colla. It's October 2003 and Baghdad has been occupied by US-led coalition forces for six months. In the midst of the chaos, crime and paranoia, Iraqi ex-policeman Muhsin al-Khafaji who has lost everything finds himself embarking on a dangerous quest for justice in a lawless society.

LA JAURÍA

An 8 x 60' Fabula and Fremantle production for TVN (Chile)

The Spanish language psychological thriller, La Jauría is directed by screenwriter and film director Lucia Puenzo (Ingobernable, XXY, Wakolda). The series features Daniela Vega, star of the acclaimed Sebastian Lelio film, A Fantastic Woman, María Gracia Omegna (Young & Wild) and Antonia Zegers (A Fantastic Woman), who play a police force who specialise in gender related crimes. Together they investigate the strange disappearance of a young woman.

Based on the best-selling and Man-Booker prize winning novel by Eleanor Catton and starring Eve Hewson, Eva Green, Himesh Patel and Ewen Leslie, The Luminaries tells an epic story of love, murder and revenge, as men and women travelled across the world to make their fortunes. It is a 19th century tale of adventure and mystery, set on the Wild West Coast of New Zealand's South Island in the boom years of the 1860s gold rush.

DUBLIN MURDERS

An 8 x 60' Euston Films, Veritas Entertainment Group and Element Pictures production for BBC One (UK) and STARZ (US)

An atmospheric, psychological thriller adapted from Tana French's first two novels in the Dublin Murder Squad crime series, In The Woods and The Likeness, from series creator and writer Sarah Phelps (And Then There Were None, The Casual Vacancy). When a young girl is found murdered in a dense wood on the outskirts of Dublin, Rob Reilly (Killian Scott; C.B. Strike) is dispatched to investigate with his partner, Cassie Maddox (Sarah Greene; Penny Dreadful). Against his better judgment and protected by his friendship with Cassie, he is pulled back into another case of missing children and forced to confront his own darkness. As the case intensifies, Rob and Cassie's relationship is tested to the breaking point and when Cassie is sent undercover on another murder, she comes face to face with her own brutal reckoning.



THE LAST WAVE

Created by Raphaëlle Roudaut (Un fils, Match Day) and Alexis Le Sec, The Last Wave is set during a surfing competition in Biarritz when a huge ominous cloud takes over the sky. As the cloud and sea meet, a jaw-dropping 3km wave appears, engulfing all the participants. As the days pass, the mystery deepens when the surfers begin to return home dazed and confused, with no memory of where they have been or what happened to them.

FACE TO FACE

When investigator Bjørn (Ulrich Thomsen; The New Pope, Banshee & The Celebration) visits a forensic officer to identify a young woman, he is horrified to find that it is his own daughter lying on the autopsy table. The forensic officer regards it as a suicide, but Bjørn refuses to believe that his daughter has taken her own life. Nevertheless, in order to understand her death, Bjørn must confront himself - until he finally faces the unavoidable truth of why she died. The series is created and directed by award-winning director Christoffer Boe.

DARKNESS: THOSE WHO KILL

Directed by award-winning director Carsten Myllerup (DICTE), Darkness: Those Who Kill tells the story of two girls who are abducted from the streets of Copenhagen on separate occasions. As several bodies from the past are discovered across the city and with a suspected serial killer on their hands, detective Jan Michelsen (Kenneth M. Christensen) and profiler Louise Bergstein (Natalie Madueño) begin a race against time to unravel the mysterious deaths and to find the two abducted girls who are hopefully still alive.

Executive produced and hosted by Academy Award nominated actor and human rights activist Samuel L. Jackson (Glass, Captain Marvel), Enslaved retraces the harrowing sea voyage that brought millions of Africans to a life of slavery in the New World. The series tracks the efforts of a group of elite divers, as they search and find six ships that went down with their human "cargo". These adventures serve as springboards for the telling of stories of suffering, resistance and survival. Enslaved features three-time Emmy award-winning filmmaker, Simcha Jacobovici and best-selling author Afua Hirsch.

PUNK

A 4 x 60' Network Entertainment production for EPIX (US)

Punk is a four-part docuseries from executive producer John Varvatos and punk music legend Iggy Pop that features original interviews with America's punk pioneers and the UK's most notorious bands including Johnny Rotten, Marky Ramone and Dave Grohl, alongside a seamless blend of rare and unseen photos, gritty archival film and video and a crackling soundtrack of punk hits and misses. Punk explores the music, the fashion, the art and the DIY attitude of a subculture of self-described misfits and outcasts.

Expedition with Steve Backshall is an ambitious, prime-time adventure series filled with world firsts, including the first descent of a white-water river in the Himalayas; trekking through unexplored jungle in South America; and climbing mountains in the deserts of the Middle East.
