The Cannes Film Festival officially unveiled the composition of its prestigious jury for its 79th edition on Monday, May 4th. Chaired this year by renowned South Korean director Park Chan-wook, the jury will bring together eight leading international figures in cinema tasked with judging the 22 films in competition and awarding the highly coveted Palme d'Or on May 23rd.
Held from May 12th to 23rd, 2026 on the Croisette, the Cannes Film Festival once again confirms its status as an essential event for the world of cinema. This edition also marks an unprecedented event: no French jurors will sit on the official jury, a first in the festival's recent history. Alongside Park Chan-wook, the cult filmmaker known for films such as Oldboy and Decision to Leave, several major figures in international cinema will lend their voices. American actress Demi Moore, recently acclaimed for her performance in The Substance, joins the jury alongside Chinese director Chloé Zhao, who won an Oscar for Nomadland. The Irish-Ethiopian actress Ruth Negga, who rose to fame in Loving, will also lend her perspective, as will the Belgian director Laura Wandel, acclaimed for her film Un monde. British screenwriter Paul Laverty, a frequent collaborator of Ken Loach and the pen behind award-winning films such as The Wind That Shakes the Barley and I, Daniel Blake, is also part of this prestigious selection.
The jury will also include Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård, recently seen in Sentimental Value, as well as Ivorian actor Isaach de Bankolé, soon to be seen in Dune: Part Three. Finally, the young Chilean director Diego Céspedes, only 31 years old and winner of the award for The Mysterious Gaze of the Flamingo, completes this eclectic and international jury.
Furthermore, the Cannes Film Festival has entrusted the role of mistress of ceremonies to actress Eye Haïdara, who will be present for the highlights of this highly anticipated edition. Between art-house cinema, international stars and promising discoveries, this 79th edition is already shaping up to be one of the major cultural events of the year.
