The doctor in dermatology, Daniela Greiner, delivers us her expert piece of advice around the theme of "removal of unwanted hair"

beautypress: Is removal of unwanted hair the cosmetic method to get rid of the hair?

It is about a very personal choice, particular to every woman, according to her needs and especially her preferences. Most women content themselves with getting rid of "superficially " hair, by shaving themselves or by using the hair-removing cream for example. Removal of unwanted hair is with certainty an efficient method, which leaves the upper part of the smooth epidermis during some time, much more for a long time than allows it the shaving. Some women however fear pain linked to the act of removal of unwanted hair, as well as the possible annoyance which follows from it.

beautypress: Is this fear founded?

Given that the hair is torn off from the root, it can arrive that some women don't support this pain. It was proved that the 1st session of removal of unwanted hair is lived as the most painful, because it is at this occasion that the biggest number of hair will be withdrawn. But pain has tendency to diminish in the course of repeated removals of unwanted hair, not growing back hair all at the same speed, therefore fewer hair of a blow is depilated and this way pain is reduced. Even the skin needs to get used to this method. By persisting therefore, pain diminishes willy-nilly.

beautypress: Is there a means to reduce the pain also when the band of wax is "drawn"?

The pain under the band of wax is directly linked with the number of withdrawn hair; it is their number which creates the feeling of twinge with the withdrawal of the band. As though every hair was drawn by pliers and that all were in the same second. It is possible to make finer bands of wax, to assemble the skin also. Ideal is a system which stimulates the skin actively, before and after the hair is withdrawn. Difference is really "felt".

A 3rd factor intervenes irrefutably in felt pain: the length of the hair. If his length wobbles between 2 and 5 mm, tirements is lesser. To attain this "optimum" length, it is possible to shave themselves a week before removal of unwanted hair with a standard or electrical razor.

beautypress: And our skin, what does it think of the removal of unwanted hair?

It doesn't much matter the method to which we will have chosen, the act of removal of unwanted hair causes an annoyance, more or less, depending on circumstances. On the most sensitive skins which aren't accustomed to removal of unwanted hair, it will be possible to see appearing redness or itches. If the skin before removal of unwanted hair is cooled, it can possibly limit unpleasant effects. For it, it can be applied at the very least 30 seconds to the zone to depilate a cold glove or a cold towel (sometimes sold with some apparatus of removal of unwanted hair).

beautypress: There Is a favoured moment for epilation?

It is better to prefer the evening, so that the skin could regenerate during night and so that redness is less visible the following morning.

beautypress: What would you recommend us to prepare the skin?

Your skin must not be moisturised before, nor covered with a fatty film. If you want to avoid the incarnate hair, these hair which grows back under the skin, you can undertake an exfoliant or a massage in the glove of horsehair, so that the dead skins are eliminated and the finest hair is therefore more accessible.

beautypress: Before or after the shower?

After the shower or the bath, the skin is more slackened and hair is easier to eliminate. On the other hand, due to the fact that the skin is warmed up, it is also more sensitive. Preferably therefore "cool down " the skin a little bit, then well dry it, before undertaking removal of unwanted hair.

beautypress: What will be good for our skin after removal of unwanted hair?

I can recommend you to apply a moisturising lotion or a cream to appease the skin. At best, you can use products based on aloé vera, allantoïne, or of camomile extract for their comforting action. Products afterwards - the sun also have the same virtues.

beautypress: Will hair grow back more afterwards?

Dermatological tests proved that this is not the case. There are rumours that women who decide to depilate it more regularly in the summer, the temperatures stimulate the growth of the hair. The blood circulates faster and gives in the root of the hair also more nutriments.

beautypress: Why does hair grows back while the principle of removing the unwanted hair is to take the root away with the hair?

In reality, the hair is torn off from the root, the root doesn't leave with! That's why after some weeks, the hair found its «size of origin». On the other hand, they grow back finer and less expanded as for sharing out.
