Venice Film Festival 2026: Cinema Returns to the Lido in Full Splendour

Every September, Venice becomes a stage.As the summer light begins to soften over the Grand Canal and the Lido fills with photographers, filmmakers, actors and international press, the world of cinema converges once again on the lagoon. From 2 to 12 September 2026, the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, organised by La Biennale di Venezia and directed by Alberto Barbera, brings ten days of premieres, discoveries, red-carpet moments and cinematic conversation to the Lido.But Venice has always been about more than glamour. Beneath the flashbulbs lies one of cinema's most closely watched competitions - a place where established auteurs meet emerging voices, where the year's most ambitious films can make their first impression, and where the Golden Lion can transform a film into an international cultural event. A Festival Between Tradition and Reinvention The 2026 edition continues Venice's particular ability to balance cinematic heritage with contemporary experimentation.At the centre is Venezia 83, the principal international competition, bringing together up to 21 feature films presented as world premieres. The selection moves across continents, languages and cinematic traditions, combining major directors with filmmakers making their competition debuts.Among the most anticipated titles is Danny Boyle's Ink, starring Jack O'Connell, Guy Pearce and Claire Foy. The film
