Charlotte Marie Pomeline Casiraghi was born on August 3, 1986, the daughter of Princess Caroline of Monaco and the late Stefano Casiraghi, and the granddaughter of Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III. In 1990, when Charlotte was only four years old, her father-an Italian industrialist and passionate powerboat racer-died in a boating accident. Princess Caroline was so devastated that she could not bring herself to tell her children the news; Prince Rainier III delivered it instead. Charlotte has since spoken of inheriting her father's courage, describing how the loss itself became a source of strength. In
