Dior Cruise 2019 took place a few days ago at Domaine de Chantilly, just a few kilometres from Paris. Maria Grazia Chiuri wanted to come with a special vibe for this collection and her inspiration came from another continent: Mexico! But, how to mix the Mexican style with the high fashion Dior? Maria Grazia Chiuri did it all:
"This kind of tradition of embroidery is part of my culture, which comes from southern Italy where my father was born, but also in the south of France, as in South America," the designer said. "In some way, I think that all the South has the same language. When we speak about lace, when we speak about embroidery, it's such a part of different countries that it's very difficult to understand where they come from."
So, the lace and embroidery mixed the Rodeo equestrian style which is quite a trend for the following season. The collection wanted to show that it is really wearable and functional, that it has that practical side and all the sophistication can be one simple outfit perfectly accessorized. The inspiration of escaramuzas, the Mexican women rodea riders, put, definitely, an emphasis on the long dresses and sombreros. There were, also, riding boots or sneakers with embroidered ankle-length dresses and skirts. But, everything was done under Dior spirit, for sure. And under the rain! It was pouring over the catwalk but it didn't seem to matter.
