Chanel Bans Products from Exotic Skins Like Crocodile, Lizard or Snake not because it turns to a more responsible philosophy or a sustainable action; It already costs them a large amount of money for taking this decision.
Chanel is the biggest brand to produce leather goods from exotic skins like crocodile, snake, liard or else and this is an enormous step in the industry. Many others will follow, for sure, and a new trend is setting down.
Why Chanel Bans its Exotic Leather Products?
As mentionned, the decision is not a sustainable one but it's related more to the diffciulty of having correctly sourced skins.
"It is our experience that it is becoming increasingly difficult to source exotic skins," the brand said in a statement, cited by WWD, and "a new generation of high-end products" will develop. The brand will turn more to fabric and agricultural leather.
This is just like the anti fur movement where brands like Gucci, Versace, Burberry, Michael Kors went fur-free.
"Fur? I am out of that," Donatella Versace told The Economist's 1843 magazine in March. "I don't want to kill animals to make fashion. It doesn't feel right."
Now, with the exotic skins, too. We are in the era where we should turn to new innovative ideas in terms of using fashion correlated to environment, planet and living.
