Cezanne, The Artist of Provence at Carrières de Lumières

An immension self projection when you enter the space of art and fantasy. The twirl of formes, colors, the mix of music and motions create the outside effect that speaks and links to the inner one.

The new digital and immersive exhibition of the Carrières de Lumières presents the most significant masterpieces of Cezanne (1839-1906) such as his still lifes with apples, The card players (1890-95) and The large bathers (around 1906).
Self-taught painter with 900 canvases and 400 watercolors, Cezanne represents portraits, still lifes, landscapes, historical scenes ... and produces multiple versions of the same subject, constantly experimenting with the possibilities of pictorial material.

First rejected at the Salon and then recognized late by his contemporaries, during a retrospective organized in 1895 by Ambroise Vollard, Cezanne is today considered the pioneer of modernity. Strongly inspired in his early days by Delacroix and Courbet, he then left his studio to turn to the Impressionists, following Pissarro's example by painting on the motif. His unique construction of forms and color and his tendency to abstraction lead him to go beyond Impressionism, to influence the Cubists, the Fauves and the avant-garde.

Father of modern art, he inspired Zola, Van Gogh, Pissarro, Monet, Renoir, Matisse... Picasso referred to him as "our common father". Through a thematic, intimate and introspective journey, the immersive exhibition created and staged by Cutback under the artistic direction of Gianfranco Iannuzzi, reveals Cezanne's intimate turmoil, the strength of his constructions, his relationship to light and colors. and his link with nature, which remains his great model, his obsessive reference. The visitor is then immersed in nature, under the large foliage of trees and forests, parks and gardens where bathers rest to finish on the Cézanne nature par excellence: Bibémus, L'Estaque, and, highest point, the Holy Victory.

His painting is also of a deep and entire sincerity, fueling uncertainty and passion. The visitor looks at the artist's intimate landscape: the self-portraits of his inner torment, the temperance brought by the soothing daily life in Aix, the intimacy of the studio ... The strength of the features, the play on the matter and its evolution, the permanent presence of nature, the suspension of time, the evolution towards an abstract reality of colors and shapes... Cezanne is a man through whom many pictorial dialogues are played out.
"Cezanne, master of Provence" offers a journey into the heart of the major works of the artist from Aix, following the common thread of nature towards Provence and Sainte-Victoire.

"Vassily Kandinsky, Odyssey of the Abstract", based on the works of the prolific and visionary artist, is a true invitation to travel into Kandinsky's inner cosmos. Painter, poet, art theorist and founder of abstract art, he revolutionized the history of art with his numerous compositions, now exhibited around the world.
