Cannes Yachting Festival 2026: The New Face of Luxury at Sea

Every September, Cannes exchanges its red carpets for polished teak decks.
From 8 to 13 September 2026, the French Riviera once again becomes the international capital of yachting as the Cannes Yachting Festival takes over the Vieux Port and Port Canto. More than 700 boats, over 680 exhibitors and a remarkable concentration of international shipyards transform the waterfront into a living showcase of the future of boating.
But the 2026 edition is about more than impressive dimensions and spectacular launches. This year, the real story is the transformation taking place beneath the surface: quieter propulsion, renewable energy, lighter materials, smarter technology and a new generation of boats designed around a more conscious vision of life at sea.
A New Season Begins in Cannes
The Cannes Yachting Festival has traditionally been the opening statement of the European yachting season. It is where shipyards reveal new models, designers present new interpretations of life afloat and buyers begin to imagine the journeys of the following year.
In 2026, that role feels particularly significant.
The festival brings together more than 710 boats ranging from approximately 5 to 55 metres, with the Vieux Port dedicated principally to motor yachts and marine innovation, while Port Canto gathers sailing yachts, brokerage yachts, smaller powerboats and water toys.
The result is less a traditional boat show than a complete portrait of contemporary yachting.
And the portrait is changing.
The First Big Novelty: Innovation Takes Centre Stage
Perhaps the clearest evolution of the 2026 edition is the emphasis placed on innovation.
The festival's Innovation Route highlights companies developing technologies and products intended to reshape the future of boating. Four award categories structure the programme: Best Equipment Improving Navigation, Best Sustainable Product, Best Innovative Vessel and Best CSR Initiative.
It is a revealing shift.
Innovation is no longer presented simply as faster engines, larger screens or increasingly sophisticated interiors. At Cannes in 2026, innovation increasingly means asking a different question:
How can luxury exist on the water with a lighter footprint?
Electric Yachting Becomes More Than a Promise
One of the most fascinating developments is the growing presence of electric and alternative-energy propulsion.
Among the innovations highlighted by the festival is the MODX 70, a 70-foot catamaran conceived around renewable energy and designed to operate without fossil fuels. Its concept combines electric propulsion, eco-designed equipment and energy autonomy with the comfort expected from a contemporary cruising yacht.
Another striking example is the M.10 by Millikan Boats, an electro-solar catamaran designed around autonomy and silent navigation. Its solar system can produce up to 35 kWh per day, supported by a 41 kWh battery bank, with a cruising speed of around eight knots.
These projects represent an important change in mentality.
Electric boating is moving away from being a niche experiment and towards becoming part of the luxury conversation itself - particularly for owners who value silence, efficiency and a closer relationship with the environment.
The sound of the sea, rather than the sound of the engine, becomes part of the experience.
A Sailing Revolution at Port Canto
For sailing enthusiasts, Port Canto remains one of the great attractions of the festival.
The 2026 Sailing Area presents around 120 monohulls and multihulls, making it one of the world's largest in-water showcases dedicated to new sailing yachts. More than 400 metres of quay are devoted to monohulls and more than 450 metres to multihulls.
And there is another important figure: according to the festival, nearly one in five sailing boats presented will be a world premiere.
That makes Port Canto one of the places to watch for the next generation of sailing design - where performance, architecture, comfort and sustainability increasingly converge.
The Rise of the Luxury Catamaran
If there is one category that continues to redefine contemporary yachting, it is the catamaran.
The reasons are easy to understand. Greater stability, generous living spaces, large exterior areas and an increasingly sophisticated approach to interior design have transformed the multihull from a specialist sailing choice into a serious luxury lifestyle proposition.
The 2026 show reflects this evolution.
Oyster, for example, presents its first sailing catamaran, the Oyster C60, introducing the British sailing yacht builder's interpretation of the multihull format. The concept combines the space and stability associated with a catamaran with Oyster's emphasis on long-distance bluewater cruising.
Elsewhere, new electric and hybrid concepts demonstrate how the catamaran platform is particularly well suited to integrating alternative energy systems.
The message is clear: the future of luxury sailing may be increasingly multihull.
Three World Premieres from Absolute Yachts
Among the major motor-yacht debuts attracting attention in 2026 is the presentation by Absolute Yachts of three new Navetta models.
The shipyard is unveiling the Navetta 50 - Absolute Calypso, Navetta 58 - Absolute Andromeda and Navetta 66 - Absolute Aurora as world premieres at Cannes.
The choice of Cannes for such a substantial presentation underlines the importance of the festival as a launch platform.
For shipyards, a world premiere here is not simply a product unveiling. It is a global statement, presented directly to owners, brokers, journalists, designers and an international audience of boating enthusiasts.
The Yacht Is Becoming a Lifestyle Ecosystem
Another defining feature of Cannes 2026 is the increasingly blurred boundary between yacht, lifestyle and entertainment.
At Port Canto, visitors can move from sailing yachts to brokerage vessels, smaller powerboats and the latest water toys.
This reflects how contemporary owners increasingly think about their time at sea.
The yacht is no longer necessarily the destination.
It is the starting point.
A tender becomes an extension of the yacht. A water toy becomes a piece of design. Outdoor living becomes as important as the interior. Wellness, gastronomy, exploration and entertainment become part of the architecture.
The modern yacht is increasingly conceived as a private world capable of moving between destinations.
From Boat Show to Experience
The 2026 edition also places greater emphasis on experiencing boats rather than simply looking at them.
The festival promotes sea trials, allowing visitors to experience selected vessels on the water rather than judging them exclusively from the quay. Complimentary sea shuttles also connect the Vieux Port and Port Canto, with departures approximately every 15 minutes during the show.
It changes the rhythm of the visit.
Instead of walking through an exhibition hall, visitors move between two harbours, step aboard yachts, test technologies and experience Cannes from the sea.
The Mediterranean becomes part of the exhibition itself.
A New Definition of Sustainable Luxury
Perhaps the most important novelty is not one particular yacht.
It is the vocabulary surrounding the entire industry.
Sustainability is becoming increasingly integrated into yacht design through electric propulsion, solar energy, alternative materials, energy efficiency and more responsible construction.
The Innovation Route's dedicated sustainable-product category makes this evolution particularly visible, while individual exhibitors are presenting solutions designed around renewable energy and reduced environmental impact.
