Craftsmanship comes to the fore in a supremely feminine collection for Fall/Winter 2016. With Artistic Director Jason Wu the architectural ideas so central to BOSS are pushed into a new dimension, with every line curved to follow the female form. Blending precision with fragility and imperfection, a unique floral motif defines a softer mood this season.
Curvature is a theme throughout, with each piece cut to define the feminine silhouette. Contrasting fabrics and textures are skillfully combined - mesh, satin, felt and bouclé are united in dresses, while leather and suede are bonded to crepe for architectural movement. Drawing on the tailoring expertise of the house, a double-faced cashmere coat features a perfectly cut cascade front and curvilinear seam detailing. The fil coupé velvet flower detail seen in the collection is cut out by hand and re-embroidered onto wool bouclé for a unique approach to floral that stays true to the BOSS DNA of craftsmanship and superlative attention to detail. Dresses are crafted from hand-frayed strips of chiffon and rows of miniature bugle beads, stitched to a fine mesh base.
The soft, textured finish recalls a relaxed sweater dress and allows glimpses of skin beneath, in an elegantly subtle approach to hand-embroidery. The collection colors - including hot pink, cinnamon, emerald, ochre and grass - are brought together in a custom-woven chevron lace that curves along the length of asymmetric silhouettes. Further lines are drawn with needle punched strips of three contrasting fabrics, embroidered together for a deconstructed finish. The accessories feature further texture contrasts, in colors designed to complement rather than perfectly match the ready-to-wear collection.
The new BOSS Bespoke hobo is presented in a layered patchwork of suede, calf hair and brushed calfskin, while the signature BOSS Bespoke bag is joined by an oversize, unlined day tote. In a subtle reference to men's formalwear, leather and calf hair loafers feature a welted last, while a zip-front boot with wood heel is a nod to the enduring ideals of form and function that continue to inform every BOSS Womenswear collection.
