"This felt very new," says Pat, of the use of one single color, varied occasionally in tone, to create the faces at Yohji Yamamoto, Jil Sander, Loewe and Givenchy.

"Last season we talked browns and taupes; this season it was more elements of grey tones."Surprisingly versatile, grey was at times, dramatic, feminine and mysterious. The feminine mystique, reflected the P&G Color Fashion Forecast trend Sketch Artist.

Feminine mystique featuring surprisingly versatile greys...dramatic, beautiful and sophisticated ...

Sometimes grey was used to suggest a dark element,as with Prada's theme of shadows and film noir, or at Loewe. "It was a very beautiful, sophisticated and chic show, and we went with a grey-toned smoked eye, with a tiny defined pencil wing and an ultra nude mouth." Grey was taken to extremes at Yohji Yamamoto where the 70s androgyny with a twist was exemplified by a 70s smoky eye with a beauty spot and glossy lips - all in grey tones - with extra care taken to blending, one of the crucial skills inexecuting a monochromatic look.

Elsewhere grey was used to symbolize luxury, was at Jil Sander, where the designer wanted very feminine, chic-looking girls, for which Pat used a grey-peach tone around the eyes using a cream color, and applied a little blush, keeping the lips nude, with a little lip balm.

Proving that monochromatic is still a winning look in other shades, at Givenchy, Pat used slightly red and brown shades on the eyes, following with a touch of gloss, which was mirrored on the lips. "The theme for the show was Victorian punk gypsies - it was a strong look, but very beautiful."

TIP: An easy way to wear this look is to keep the lips neutral, rather than using the same shade you used on the eyes. "Try bare lips by wearing concealer, nude balm or beige lipstick."
